1.The Hanged Man

Medium - C-print

Size – 3ft x 5ft

Year - 2010

This is a photo work and installation we created during the World Tea Party exhibition at Centre A. This tent is a remanent from our previous project City Hall. For the World Tea Party, we hung it from the ceiling, creating a space for social gathering - sharing stories around a simulated campfire while serving locally harvested weed teas. The photo work itself references the The Hanged Man, card number twelve in the tarot card deck. Popular readings of this card suggest life in a state of suspension. This image serves as a metaphor, drawing parallels between two threshold events in Vancouver's history, The great fire of 1886 and the 2010 Winter Olympics. Both events enacted major redevelopment, resulting in drastic transformations to the city of Vancouver, with the ladder leaving us in a state of suspension as we question what is lost or forgotten in the process.
